Show (Jazz) Band
13 through 18 years old
This is an audition-only class for students who are proficient at navigating their instrument, and want to learn the skill of playing on a Jazz Band. This group is for students ages 13 through 18. In this course, we focus on understanding how to converse musically with a full band, stay on tempo, improvise, and learn the number system, among other things. We will be competing against other area show bands in area high schools and accompanying our BRIO Show Choir at competitions!
Class Schedule
Mondays (and possible Wednesdays)
2:00pm to 3:30pm
This class runs for two 12-week semesters, for a full year. Class time is 90 minutes, and cost is $130/Month.

Band Information and Audition spots

Trumpet and Trombonists should have a basic understanding and proficiency at note reading and rhythm.

Acoustic guitarists will need their own instrument with capabilities to plug into a system. They also should have experience reading chord charts

Electric guitarists will need their own instrument and amp to bring each week. They are welcome to bring any effect pedals they have, but those aren’t required.

Bass guitarists will need their own instrument and amp, and have experience reading chord charts

Pianists will need to be proficient at navigating the instrument and have experience reading chord charts.

Drummers should be proficient at playing different genres of music. They will have an acoustic set for rehearsals but will need to have a set at home to use for practice.

Alto, Tenor, and Baritone Saxophone should have sufficient knowledge at note reading and counting rhythm.

Synthesizer player should have basic knowledge of playing piano chords, and note and rhythm reading on sheet music.

…for someone to realize they can grow in their gift of musical worship! This group not only creates an atmosphere for students to grow in confidence on their instrument, but also allows them the important opportunity to work with others in a band-style setting. We will also have guest instructors who are current performing musicians and worship leaders from around Omaha to come and coach the students.
$130/Month
*plus a $50 non-refundable enrollment fee per Student due at sign-up, a $30 concert fee due on the last month of classes. Mandatory participation is required in one fundraiser per semester.
